This is one of my favorite “special” meals that my Mom used to make when I was growing up. If you’re looking for something new amp; different give this recipe a try. It really is delicious amp; quite simple. This recipe serves 6 and will need a small rice cooker 2 cup for the average quantity of rice you’ll need.
What you’ll need:
1 amp; 1/2 Pounds round steak
1 amp; 1/2 Tbsp vegetable oil
2 Large onions – sliced
1 Can sliced mushrooms (drain amp; reserve liquid)
1 Can cream of mushroom soup
1 amp; 1/2 Tbsp garlic salt
3 Cups hot cooked rice
Also…Soya sauce to add color amp; flavor
What to do:
Cut excess fat off of steak Cut steak into strips Brown steak in oil over medium heat. Use a deep dish skillet if you have one. (Lid needed later.) If you are doing the full recipe you may have to transfer some beef into a bowl just to brown more if your skillet won’t hold it all. Add onions Saute for a few minutes, leaving onions still crisp Blend soup, liquid from mushrooms amp; garlic salt (fits into a 2 Cup glass measuring cup) Pour soup mixture over steak Add mushrooms Add soya sauce to color at this point. The soup mixture should look like gravy. Without the soya sauce it looks too bland. Reduce heat, cover amp; simmer 1 to 1.5 hours. (The longer the more tender your beef will be.) If you want you can place lid so that some air will get out – it still will cook nicely amp; not boil over. Stirring occasionally or
Cover amp; bake at 350 degrees for 1 to 1.5 hours, stirring a few times
Prepare rice as directed on package
Serve over rice once completely cooked; done.
